TSB will close 70 bank branches in the UK next year, a banking giant confirmed today.

The closure will result in 150 fewer roles within the company but TSB says all affected employees will be offered alternative roles.

TSB will also open ten more “pop-up” branches across the UK as part of the changes.

The bank said their arrest is a response to the fact that more people are using online banking and fewer people are visiting its physical branches.

The coronavirus crisis has accelerated this trend, the bank said, with more than 90% of consumer transactions now being redirected.

TSB currently has 290 banks but its closure will bring that number down to 220.

All branch closures will take place between April 2022 and June 2022 – you can see the full list of locations where TSB will be closed below.

TSB says 90% of its customers will still be able to visit one of its branches in 20 minutes or less.

The bank adds that by the end of the year, it will also update around 140 of its physical websites with “new technology and the creation of a more open and reasonable map”.

The latest announcement comes after TSB announced in September 2020 that it would close its 164 branches.

In November 2019, the bank closed 82 of its corporate websites as part of its closure program.

TSB Customer Manager Robin Bulloch said: “Closing branches is a very difficult decision to take, but we need to respond to changes in the way banking is done and provide the right mix of jobs for all our customers now and in the future.

“These changes allow us to maintain a comprehensive branch presence across the country. They are driven by a significant investment program to renovate branches to better meet the needs of customers.

“And, where it takes longer to reach the nearest branch, we will introduce more ‘pop-up’ tasks in the communities.”
